In the peaceful town of Mir-Dantar, Anantnag, South Kashmir, a powerful story of dreams, dedication, and never giving up has taken shape. Meet Mohammad Muneeb Bhat, a 32-year-old civil engineering graduate who didn’t let failures stop him. After seven years of relentless hard work, he cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, securing an impressive All India Rank of 131 — a rank likely to land him in the Indian Police Service (IPS).

From Dreams to Reality: The Start of a Journey
Muneeb’s UPSC journey began in 2017, right after he completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering. Like thousands of aspirants, he started with big dreams but faced one obstacle after another. Despite multiple failed attempts, he never lost hope. Instead, he kept improving and moving forward.
His hard work paid off when he cleared the Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS) in 2023 and got selected for the State Police Service. Currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) on probation, Muneeb didn’t stop there — he kept aiming higher.
“This was my last attempt, and I wanted to give it everything,” says Muneeb. “Though I had a job, my heart was set on joining the IPS.”
His journey is proof that consistency, mental strength, and belief in oneself are key ingredients to success.
Simple Strategy, Big Results
Unlike many who chase shortcuts and complex plans, Muneeb followed a simple and solid strategy:
- NCERT books as the foundation
- Previous years’ question papers for pattern analysis
- Daily newspaper reading to build awareness
“Newspapers played a major role in my preparation from Day 1,” Muneeb shares.
He focused on improving his answer writing skills for the mains exam. Practicing regularly helped him build confidence and better express his thoughts in the exam.
Coaching and the Power of Environment
Muneeb took coaching for his optional subject, Political Science and International Relations, from Shubhra Ranjan Coaching Institute in Delhi. He stayed at Jamia RCA, a residential coaching academy that provided the right environment for focused study.
“The study atmosphere, peer support, and structured routine really helped,” he says. But Muneeb also believes that today, with so many resources available online, even those at home can succeed with the right mindset.
“Stay focused, use digital platforms smartly, and maintain self-discipline,” he advises.
A Strong Support System
Muneeb credits his success to the unwavering support of his family and friends:
“My parents, siblings, and fiancée stood by me through every failure and every tough day.” Yet, it was his own inner drive that kept him going:
“This dream was mine, and it was my inner willpower that carried me through the hardest times.”
Words of Wisdom for Aspirants
For others walking the same path, Muneeb shares golden advice:
- Own your dream: It has to be truly yours
- Don’t fear failure: Learn and rise stronger each time
- Surround yourself with positive energy: Stay close to supportive people
- Seek proper guidance: More than coaching, right mentorship matters
“This journey is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Stay patient and keep improving.”
Vision for the Future: Serving with Heart
With UPSC success behind him, Muneeb’s goal remains humble and noble:
“I want to serve with compassion and empathy. My inspiration comes from the idea of ‘Antyodaya’—reaching and helping the last person in line.”
His message is clear: True service lies in touching lives where it’s needed the most.
Final Thoughts: An Inspiration for Every Dreamer
Mohammad Muneeb Bhat’s story isn’t just about success. It’s about belief, persistence, and never giving up—even when the odds are against you. For every UPSC aspirant who thinks, “Can I really do it?”, Muneeb’s life answers, “Yes, you can — if you stay committed and true to your dream.”
