Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: “When youth stand united, real change begins.”
This belief came to life at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where students, doctors, and faculty came together to raise their voices against drug abuse. Under the nationwide campaign “Nasha Mukt Bharat – Drug-Free Campus”, AMU observed a Drug Awareness Fortnight from June 12 to June 26, culminating in a powerful awareness seminar held at the university’s hockey ground.
This two-week campaign became more than just a formal event—it emerged as a symbol of youth-led social change.

Students Take a Pledge – A Life of Discipline Over Addiction
The closing ceremony brought together medical experts, trainers, university officials, and hundreds of students who pledged to stay away from substance abuse and to encourage others to do the same.
The event was organized under the leadership of Prof. Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary, University Games Committee. It was presided over by Prof. Moinuddin, EC Member, AMU, and graced by Dr. Rajeev Agarwal, former mayoral candidate of Aligarh, as the chief guest.

Dr. Agarwal applauded the initiative, saying When India’s largest residential university takes a clear stand against drug abuse, it becomes a beacon of hope and inspiration for society. The commitment shown by AMU students is truly commendable.”

In his presidential address, Prof. Moinuddin emphasized the deep-rooted impact of addiction:
“Addiction doesn’t destroy just one person—it weakens families, communities, and nations. In such a scenario, the role of academic institutions becomes critically important.”

Medical Experts Highlight the Dangers of Addiction
Health professionals including Prof. Ghulam Sarwar Hashmi (Dental Surgeon), Prof. Mazhar Abbas (Orthopedic Surgeon), and Prof. F.S. Shirani (Unani Medicine Expert) shed light on the physical and psychological impacts of drug use. Their message was clear: substance abuse can devastate one’s health, relationships, and future.
Fitness and Discipline: AMU’s New Mantra for Youth
Event moderator and trainer Mazharul Qamar made a strong recommendation that the government should temporarily close liquor shops and enforce strict regulations in public spaces during such anti-drug campaigns.
He also shared how AMU students are being encouraged to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle through the university’s gymnasiums, yoga clubs, and fitness programs.Collective Presence: A Symbol of Unity
The event saw participation from many university dignitaries and trainers including Dr. Mohammad Anas, Dr. Shamshad Alam, Deputy Director Aneesur Rahman, Assistant Director Arshad Mehmood, Yoga Instructor Hamid Ali, Fitness Coach Khusro Maroof, Swimming Coach Shuaib, Football Coach Zamir Chaudhary, and numerous students—both boys and girls.

Conclusion – Oath for a Better Tomorrow
At the end of the event, Prof. Moinuddin and Dr. Rajeev Agarwal led the audience in taking a collective anti-drug pledge, reaffirming their commitment to build a healthier, addiction-free campus and society. The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, echoing a sense of purpose and unity.

Through this campaign, AMU students proved that the future of India is in safe, conscious, and responsible hands. Their energy, discipline, and awareness serve as a shining example for campuses and communities across the country.
